Job Summary:The Relief Jockey position has a variety of different assignments which are assigned based on the training level of the employee and business needs in support of achieving the goals of the Portland, ME distribution department. This job description is meant to serve as an outline of the duties and responsibilities that a Relief Jockey may be required to perform during the course of their workday but is not all inclusive of the Relief Jockey responsibilities.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:--- Drive trucks and trailers back and forth from our offsite storage to the manufacturing facility for loading, checking for product safety, while complying with all safety guidelines.--- Complete regional day trips from the Portland, ME manufacturing facility to locations in New England including customer distribution centers, HP Hood manufacturing plants, distribution depots and water tank trips.--- Aiding to move equipment to and from the Portland facility's service providers Ryder, Penske, and Wagon Masters.--- Complete a walk-around safety check of all vehicles to include wheels, doors, reefer unit on/off, load bars, etc.--- Truck, once full, is parked and switched on, plugged in and operational to maintain product integrity.--- Review load sheets for delivery routes and verify correct product(s) and amounts are loaded to assigned trailers.--- Continuously check for and remove damaged goods to ensure that only quality product is being shipped to customers.--- Pull empty and full milk cases stacked 7 high (up to 200 lbs) with repetition.--- Dispose of returned product by manually dumping into disposal system using repetitive motion. --- Wash trailers/trucks after unloading empty cases.--- Perform empty case audits in the Portland case room when needed--- Responsible for helping to collect reefer hours and trailer mileage when needed, approx. once monthly--- Responsible for the safe operation of the Company vehicle while complying with all company, State and Federal regulations.--- Must represent the Company in a courteous, ethical and professional manner at all times.--- Must keep a vehicle operation log and report any necessary maintenance or other challenges to the Distribution Supervisor daily and complete all necessary reports as required by DOT and HP Hood LLC.--- Deliver all trailers ordered in a timely manner and advise the Distribution Supervisor of any recommendations for improvements or problems needing attention on a daily basis.--- Keep accurate, daily records of accounts and cases delivered and returned by customers--- Must be able to work independently while supporting the Distribution Department.--- Work in a cooperative manner with managers, supervisors and peers.--- Perform assigned duties satisfactorily and in a timely manner.--- Maintain a clean & safe work environment.--- Perform all other related duties as assigned.Education and Experience: --- GED or High School Diploma.--- Reading & writing proficiency (English language) and ability to identify colors.--- Basic math skills.--- Ability to work well as part of a team.--- Good communication skills.--- Multi-tasked Individual.--- Ability to work independently with little supervision.--- Ability to work a flexible schedule that changes dependent upon vacation schedules, sick calls, personal days off and business need.--- Experience driving commercial vehicles and a CDL.Skills and Competencies:--- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.--- Execute assigned duties with minimal supervision.--- Available for required overtime to support business needs and/or critical situations.--- Available to cover sick call outs as needed.--- Perform assigned duties satisfactorily and in a timely manner.--- Perform assigned duties following "Good Manufacturing Practices."--- Actively participate in special teams representing the distribution department.--- Maintain a clean & safe work environment.--- Perform all other related duties as assigned.Other Information/Physical Requirements:--- Ability to move at a quick pace.--- Standing: Long periods (up to 8 hours).--- Sitting: when assigned to operate vehicles, fork-lifts or similar equipment. (if qualified)--- Walking: Frequently.--- Bending, Twisting & Stretching: Frequently.--- Lifting: Heavy (50 lbs): occasionally.--- Carrying: Heavy (40-60 lbs.): occasionally.--- Pushing/Pulling: up to approximately 200 lbs. drag weight without assistance: frequently and wheeled weight up to approximately 800 lbs.: occasionally.--- Environment: Refrigerated and non-refrigerator areas with temperature variations from 34 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit.Comp: $1,560.53 for the first 12wks; $1,818.50/wk. thereafterSchedule: Subject to change to match department needs.
