Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE: The purpose of this position is to provide technical, clerical, and administrative support for the Sheriff's Office mission and its goals to increase transparency and enhance the public trust. This position will provide support for the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Division, and Internal Affairs. The Media Specialist will assist with the managing of the Agency's body-worn cameras (BWC) systems, to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and laws and to appropriately respond to public records requests. Work is performed with initiative, independent judgment, and confidentiality.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent;
  • Clerical and administrative experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Knowledge of the use of Spillman, and Axon Evidence.com preferred. Alternatively, the ability to learn these systems and become proficient with training;
  • General knowledge of Law Enforcement procedures and FOAA laws preferred;
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work and deal effectively with all types of people;
  • Must have experience using computers utilizing Adobe Pro and the Microsoft Suite including Excel and Word;
  • Must be proficient in spelling and grammar and have experience in data entry;
  • Experience in public news and information, broadcasting, video compilation or production, records management, as well as video recording, archiving and transfer systems, public interactions, and customer service.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Manages and supports the agency's video recording systems.
    2. Makes recommendations for innovations, improvements to service delivery, and enhancements for more
    efficient and effective public information sharing and use of systems.
    3. Develops proactive and innovative strategies in line with the agency's interest or appropriately conveying
    accurate public information.
    4. Manages and supports the agency's video recording systems including Body Worn Camera (BWC), Mobile Videos and Jail Videos.
    5. Coordinates the production or downloads of video and recordings in accordance with established policies,
    procedures, or direction.6. Transcribes audio and video recordings, which include proofreading and making corrections.
    7. Operates redaction software for audio/video data, as necessary.
    8. Secures information by completing database backups.
    9. Maintains all records of data forwarded to appropriate individuals or entities pertaining to Body Worn Cameras, Mobile Video cameras, and Jail videos.
    10. Works with the Information Technology Department or private vendors to maintain, troubleshoot, and resolve
    video system issues.
    11. Prepares reports, as necessary from the Evidence.com database and Spillman.
    12. Receives, reviews, and processes Freedom of Access Act (FOAA) requests received by the Agency related to Body Worn Cameras, videos, and footage. Maintains records of FOAA requests, retains copies of released videos or documents, prepares invoices and receives monies, and forwards payments to the Finance Department. Maintains access to archived records.
    13. Assists Patrol Deputies, Internal Affairs, and Detectives with investigations, as needed.
    14. Assists Internal Affairs Analyst, as needed.
    15. Works directly with the FOAA clerk and serves as a backup when the FOAA clerk is absent.
    16. Maintains logs of correspondence requesting the release of videos
    17. Maintain a log of payments received for videos requested.
    18. Able to perform data analysis.
    19. Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing tasks as assigned.
    20. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops including FOAA training, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
    21. Supports the County's safety and health policies by attending required safety training programs and reporting all accidents and suspected safety hazards to a supervisor.
    22. Assists Prosecution Attorneys in providing videos, data, or related FOAA or other public requests.
    23. Performs similar or related work as required.
    This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-union position located at the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office in Portland, Maine. The salary for this position starts at $24.15-$29.45 per hour or higher; contingent upon experience.Powered by JazzHR
