Job Description:
Mitchell College is conducting a local search for a reliable and
detail-oriented Groundkeeper to maintain the appearance, safety,
and cleanliness of campus grounds. This position plays a key role
in creating a welcoming environment for students, staff, and
visitors. This position is full-time (40 hrs/wk.), full year and
includes a competitive benefits package. Responsibilities and
Duties: Mows lawns and trims grass around walks, signs, lights,
flower bed, buildings and walls. Prunes shrubs and trees to shape
and improve growth. Removes damaged leaves, branches, and twigs
using mowers, tractors and other hand and power tools. Lays out and
set up of Athletic Fields, paints, moves goals, moves bleachers,
cleans turf, grooms’ field and performs field repairs. Lays out and
tends flower beds, weeds, edges, mulches and supports other
decorative vegetation. Maintains and sharpens tools and makes minor
repairs on equipment, as needed. Plants, fertilizes, waters, weeds,
edges, mulches and uses herbicides and insecticides to maintain
grass, flowers, trees and shrubs. Removes snow and ice from walks,
stairs, driveways and fields; spreads salt Picks up litter, empties
trash cans, rakes, bags, leaves and debris. Blows of hard surfaces.
Cleans drainage ditches and culverts. Paints Maintains driveways,
parking lots and signage. Repairs fences, gates, walls, walks and
outbuildings using carpentry, masonry and painting tools. Performs
routine cleaning and maintenance on gardening and grounds
equipment. Operates all equipment according to manufacturer safety
guidelines and wears appropriate PPE (Personal Protective
Equipment) at all times and expected to use items such as but not
limited to lawn mowers, zero turns, UTV (Gator), side walk plows,
snow blower, tractors, pickup truck, augers, line trimmers,
blowers, sweepers, leaf vacuum, chain saw, pruners, shears,
spreaders, power washers, edger and hand-held tools such as but
limited to rakes, shovels and hammers. Maintains a high level of
awareness for student/staff safety while operating equipment, heavy
machinery or applying treatments during campus hours. On occasion
be asked to support on event set ups, exterior and interior
maintenance. Ability to work independently, be a self-starter and
work with others. Will be required to work designated weekends for
special events and or sporting events. Other duties as assigned

Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) 3
or more years of related work experience. Turf or Horticultural
training is preferred Ability to effectively communicate policies,
