Role Overview

Wood is seeking a Professional Mechanical Engineer to join our Northeast US Resilient Environments operations, based out of Portland, Maine. The ideal candidate will have a solid technical background in the engineering design of mechanical and HVAC systems, as well as experience in energy, plumbing, and/or fire protection design. Our Mechanical team provides innovative technical solutions for large, complex and challenging projects in the industrial, municipal, federal and commercial markets, with a focus to providing sustainable, resilient, and energy efficient solutions for our clients and projects. The types of projects we work on are local and international, they include: highly secure radar facilities, combined heat & power plants, geothermal systems, upgrades to HVAC systems in historic buildings, hospital and office renovations, among many other interesting projects.

Our Portland Operations is made up of a multi-disciplinary science/engineering/architecture team of 150+ staff, located in one of the most livable cities in the US. Wood offers technical and innovative solutions on projects located throughout the US, while also having the structure, resources, and opportunities of a large global organization

Key Responsibilities:

Design HVAC, plumbing, and/or fire protection systems in accordance with local codes and standards and client requirements, specifically including ductwork, piping, and controls.

Prepare construction drawings, specifications, and engineer's cost estimates.

Calculate heating and cooling loads using energy modeling software.

Calculate energy consumption, savings, and life cycle analysis of HVAC systems using energy modeling software.

Select equipment and components for HVAC and plumbing systems.

Survey and evaluate mechanical systems in existing buildings.

Review existing drawings supplied by vendors, clients, and engineers and field verify accuracy and completeness.

Coordinate with other building design disciplines and work in a team environment.

Support proposal preparation and business development.

Work with junior staff to develop their engineering skills.

Skills / Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

Must have a minimum of 5+ years of relevant Mechanical Engineering consulting experience

Must be registered as a Professional Mechanical Engineer or have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and be eligible to take the P.E exam within 1 year.

Proven experience in designing mechanical controls for systems is essential (systems such as: HVAC, Air Conditioning, Heaters, etc.)

Experience in plumbing, general electrical and/or fire protection system knowledge is an asset.

Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced and deadline driven environment

Must have a valid Driver's license, and a satisfactory driving record

Willing and able to travel to project sites and meetings throughout the US, typically up to one week at a time.

Must be eligible to work in the USA without sponsorship

Wood employees in the US that work on Federal contracts or meet the definition of a covered contractor employee will need to provide proof of vaccination, or request accommodation by December 8
