Entry Level Railroad Bridge Engineer

Job Description:

Fair Dermody Consulting Engineers is looking for a motivated candidate to support a small team in producing professional, economical, and commonsense plans and specifications for railroad bridge repair and design projects. -Tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Interpreting existing plans and drafting existing and proposed conditions for rehabilitation projects
  • Performing load ratings on various types of railroad structures
  • Assisting with railroad bridge inspections
  • Performing jacking/temporary support calculations for bridge construction
  • Designing and drafting railroad bridge deck replacement plans
  • Preliminary design calculations for railroad bridge rehabilitation and replacement
  • Technical specification writingTo be successful, this candidate should feel comfortable taking on many tasks that require various skills, and appropriately prioritizing those tasks' completion. -Minimum Qualifications:
    • BS in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred)
    • E.I.T. or E.I. certification
    • Coursework in Steel and Reinforced Concrete Design
    • Strong experience in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
    • Familiarity with structural engineering software (RISA preferred) -Skills/Abilities Desired:
      • Technical skills in bridge design and detailing of steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete and timber bridges and other structures
      • Experience developing preliminary design reports, contract plans, specifications and construction cost estimates in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO & AREMA
      • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
      • Self-motivated and willing to take responsibility
