people, communities, and the planet. As a Database Engineer at
Agri-Mark, you will be responsible for the performance, integrity,
and security of SQL Servers and their databases. This position
plays a role in the design, implementation and support of the
organization's enterprise class, mission-critical systems on an
evolving hybrid-cloud network, including on-prem and cloud-based
infrastructure. The role will provide technical assistance to IS
team members and third parties with a high degree of
professionalism, working independently and in concert with
Infrastructure Engineers, Business Analysts, and Developers to
complete assigned tasks on time and within budget. A Database
Engineer at Agri-Mark should be able to function effectively within
the following core competencies while helping to support productive
relationships with consultants, vendors, and other partners. They
will work independently and in teams, seeking understanding from
associated subject matter experts (SMEs) where necessary. What
you'll be doing:
Working collaboratively with business owners and other parties to
set standards of requested implementation projects, including logs,
clustering, mirroring, and capacity planning Install and configure,
and/or migrate to new SQL servers Assisting with performance issues
from applications to determine how configuration changes,
index/query modifications, and additional hardware can improve
performance Configure SQL server monitoring to alert the
appropriate parties Deploy database scripts provided by third-party
vendors Ensure all SQL servers are backed up to ensure Agri-Mark's
Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) Verify all SQL backups are tested
regularly to meet Agri-Mark's Recovery Time Objectives (RTO)
Troubleshoot database outages as the occur Using third-party tools
to diagnose performance and reliability issues Deploy and support
physical and virtual database infrastructure required to maintain
the organization's mission-critical systems and line-of-business
applications using a hybrid of Microsoft Azure-based and
VMware-based on-premises virtual environments Provide direct
technical support and guidance to key decision-makers in the
fulfillment of well-informed planning, capacity, budgetary and
capital decisions by the IS department Build and maintain strong
partner relationships with all 3rd parties. Work seamlessly with
vendors, consultants, and subject matter experts (SMEs) Work with
security team to design and integrate best-practice security
solutions Assume a supporting role in the design and implementation
of robust business continuity and disaster recovery (DR) plans,
including storage and data-flow design Monitor day to day network
performance; diagnose network problems and resolve issues, often
under time constraints Promote, create, and maintain comprehensive
documentation as it relates to database configuration, topology,
process, standards and change management Remain current on emerging
technologies via industry conferences, professional groups, trade
publications, training, independent research, and other avenues
Promote and maintain a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a
commitment to the success of all projects and teams within the IS
department Perform other tasks and special assignments as requested
by the Infrastructure Manager or Director of IS
What we are seeking:
Experience in a manufacturing environment Ability to conduct
troubleshooting and research into production products as required
Can effectively utilize various hardware & network diagnostic tools
Experience in the support of software solutions, systems Strong
written and verbal communication skills Strong interpersonal skills
Keen attention to detail Being a good team player and ability to
work with various departments throughout the company Bachelor's
degree in a technical field or relevant combination of education,
training, and experience. Some formal training desirable,
especially on Microsoft technologies Professional certification(s)
are desirable (e. Microsoft Azure certification, ICCT) Minimum 4-6
years of progressive responsibility for deploying and supporting
state of the art database environments at a technical level
Experience deploying enterprise class on both physical and virtual
server workloads running Windows and VMware ESXi operating systems
Experience deploying and configuring Microsoft Azure-based VMs and
storage resources using Azure Management Portal. Demonstrated
experience designing and implementing high performance, scalable
solutions to fulfill business continuity and disaster recovery (DR)
requirements of the organization Working knowledge of Windows
server operating systems and best practices, including Microsoft
Active Directory, NTFS security and group policy. Experience
deploying and leveraging enterprise Network Management Systems,
scripting/automation tools, and other utilities to maximize
effectiveness Experience tuning T-SQL queries to improve
performance PowerShell experience to build new and maintain
existing database administration tools Capable of independently
prioritizing tasks from help desk ticketing system and other
sources Sitting for extended periods of time Travel to support
various plants, warehouses, offices, and distribution center
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard,
mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components
Off-hours work may be necessary.
