Job Description:

transparent.Directs and oversees the operations of the regional
claims department to meet operation, financial, and service
requirements. Provides guidance and oversees the activities and
development of Claim Team Managers. Duties include the formulation
of budgets, expense management, representing Claim Department
interests at interdepartmental meetings, oversight of reserves and
large financial transactions on catastrophic losses within assigned
authority levels, review and adjustment of staffing levels and
participation in advisory councils and industry groups as needed.
Finally, the director manages selected high-profile cases and those
which represent extra-contractual or potential bad faith exposures
against MEMIC.Principal Duties and Responsibilities:Manage a region
of the Company's workers' compensation claims through a team of
claims professionals to achieve fair and efficient resolution of
all matters.Manage and develop a team of Claim Team Managers in
your region.Responsibly utilize case reserving and settlement
authority within established levels individually and for his/her
team and ensure appropriate documentation of the same.Assure
accountability among the team for approval of claims expenses and
litigation fees.Assure accountability among the team for
appropriate documentation within and maintenance of the electronic
claims system files.Hire and supervise directly, and via the team,
outside defense counsel and claim investigators within established
guidelines.Effectively participate and counsel team members as
appropriate, in settlement negotiations, mediations, arbitrations
and trials as required for optimal outcomes.Identify appropriate
cases and oversee preparation of those for presentation to the VP
and Claims Round Table for reserve and settlement authority and to
excess and reinsurers as needed.Enforce the department and company
strategy and philosophy for effective claims management.Utilize
monthly loss runs and/or auditing of claims assigned to team
members to maintain performance accountability against established
metrics.Ensure a regular diary process is maintained within the
team.Maintain current knowledge of laws and rules affecting
workers' compensation claims management decisions; educate and
train staff.Develop and maintain effective, efficient and
respectful working relationships with all departments within
MEMIC.Build and maintain strategic alliances and collaborative
partnerships with policy holders and agents that will mutually
benefit the Claims Department and the organization.Serve as project
leader and/or participate in committees or task forces as
assigned.Integrate and counsel team members on newly developed
processes and procedures affecting claims and overall company
operations.Maintain current licensure needed to perform duties as
required in territory assigned.Requirements:Bachelor's degree
desired.Five plus years Property & Casualty Workers Compensation
claim handling experience required; Seven years Property & Casualty
Workers Compensation claim handling experience preferred.Five plus
years Management/Supervisory experience desired.Demonstrated
evidence of Leadership skills/competencies required.Must have high
degree of working knowledge of all aspects of workers' compensation
insurance, laws, and regulations as well a claim
handling.Multi-jurisdictional experience a plus.Experience handling
Longshore and/or Jones Act claims a plus.Must possess a current
compensation adjuster license in state where position resides
along.Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication
skills a must.Excellent analytical and organizational skills with
strong attention to detailProven ability to solve problems and make
sound decision a must.Project Management skills a plus.Our
