Nuclear Medicine is specialized clinical work, utilizing
sophisticated imaging techniques for use in the evaluation,
diagnosis and treatment of patients. This is an entry level Nuclear
Medicine & PET/CT Technologist position.
The technologist has completed clinical rotations training in
imaging procedures, radionuclides and utilization of
radiopharmaceutical to perform diagnostic imaging exams and
therapeutics. The technologist requires knowledge in chemistry,
physics, mathematics and biomedical sciences that relate to Nuclear
Medicine and PET/CT technology. Work also includes quality control,
radiation safety, record keeping and monitoring Nuclear Medicine
and PET/CT equipment.
The technologist is required to be competent in a wide variety of
procedures referred by oncology, cardiology, trauma, urology,
gastroenterology, neurology and nephrology. Independent work ethic
with knowledge of anatomy, patient positioning, dose calculation
and administration are required.
The Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT technologist must follow established
protocols and guidelines for use by physicians in diagnosis and
treatment of pathologies. The Nuclear Medicine & PET/CT
Technologist must maintain a smooth operational flow to ensure
maximum patient volumes with consideration of patient and radiation
safety. It is a requirement to travel between sites as needed.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
1. Education: Completion of a Bachelor's program of an NMTCB or
ARRT approved school of Nuclear Medicine or completion of a
Bachelor's program with a post baccalaureate certificate or degree
in Nuclear Medicine.
2. Licensure: Must be licensed as a Radiologic Technologist through
the state of Maine.
3. Certification: Certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology with
the NMTCB or ARRT required, BLS required.
4. Experience: Entry Level
5. Abilities: Ability to recognize and respond to patient emergency
situations. Analytical ability to determine best method of
providing requested imaging based on patient's physical
