Job Description:
Summary Maine Medical Center is currently seeking a Poison
Information Specialist for the Northern New England Poison Center.
This team-focused, intellectually challenging position requires a
"can do" problem-solving attitude. On-the-job training and national
exam required (1-3 years after hire). The incumbent must pass the
American Association Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) Certification
Exam within two testing periods. We are accepting new graduates for
this position, and will assist with certification. Maine Medical
Center is the states largest Medical Center and the flagship
facility for MaineHealth.
This is a 40-hour role with rotating shifts including day, evening,
night, weekends and holidays - while utilizing the self scheduling
model. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, and
due to the call center environment requires sitting and typing for
extended periods. The Poison Info Specialist Nurse is in a call
center setting and is based in Portland, Maine.
Position Summary
Manages poison exposures and answers poison and drug information
questions through the Poison Center hotline. Assists with poison
related education of health care professional, the lay public and
Poison Information Providers (PIP). Contributes to assigned
projects, which may include grants, contracts, outreach, data
organizing and reporting, quality assurance and research. Prepares
for and passes American Association Poison Control Centers (AAPCC)
Certification Exam within two testing periods.
