Sterile Processing Tech Location: Machias, ME Agency: Cynet Health Pay: $1,396 per week Shift Information: Days - 5 days x 8 hours Contract Duration: 13 Weeks Start Date: ASAP About the Position Job Title: Central Service Technician Profession: Nursing Specialty: Sterile Processing Technologist Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8.5 Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Certification required Certifications: Certified CRCST and CER Must-Have: Basic computer skills Ability to communicate effectively with department personnel and medical staff Description: The Central Service Technician is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies and equipment. The employee must be conscientious with regard to procedures and capable of accepting pressure assignments, clerical assignments, and other duties. They must maintain a high degree of confidentiality and support the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Sterile processing experience using gas and steam is required, along with cleaning, tray assembly, wrapping, and processing. Specialties include OB-GYN, general surgery, ENT, orthopedics, podiatry, pain management, and urology. Endoscopy scope cleaning and sterilization experience is also necessary. Essential job functions include: Ensuring proper operation of autoclave units prior to use on a daily basis. Responsible for ensuring biological and chemical tests at the start of each day shift if assigned, and recording results in the appropriate log. Inspecting gas and steam autoclaves for visible signs of malfunction. Processing contaminated instruments and supplies returned for service. Using knowledge of sterilization principles to wrap or package items correctly for sterilization. Processing all items appropriately, following manufacturer’s instructions. Assisting with training and in-services for new and long-term employees. Applying aseptic technique during daily work assignments. Storing supplies and equipment in appropriate locations. Caring for instruments, syringes, needles, and other special procedure items, with knowledge of their usage. Assuring proper tray assemblage, packaging, and preparation for sterilization. Properly loading, operating, and cleaning all sterilizers and general equipment. Receiving and delivering surgical supplies and filling requisition requests. Ordering weekly department supplies when needed. Maintaining all necessary records and documentation. Seeking needed information by staying informed and involved through meetings and other communications. Demonstrating reliable attendance and punctuality, including observing appropriate break times. Performing duties in a safe manner and in compliance with all safety policies and procedures. Complying with all applicable policies and procedures. Completing other assigned duties relevant to the department. Physical effort includes frequently lifting up to 35 pounds independently. The position requires frequently pushing or pulling 100 pounds using mechanical devices. Walking, standing, kneeling, and bending are part of daily responsibilities. Fine motor skills and manual dexterity are necessary. Visual acuity correctable to 20/20 and normal hearing acuity are required. This position has an exposure risk category. Employees are at risk for exposure to blood borne pathogens. Maintaining current knowledge of quality improvement programs is necessary. Collaboration with management to improve department effectiveness through quality improvement plans and processes is expected. Participation in departmental and organization-wide quality improvement activities is required. Adhering to federal, state, and local statutes and regulations is mandatory. Compliance with all privacy and security policies and procedures is required. Communicating any concerns related to compliance or confidentiality issues to the appropriate personnel is expected.
