Description The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Med-Surg/Telemetry and
Progressive Care Unit (PCU) provides comprehensive nursing care to
adult patients with acute and chronic medical conditions requiring
continuous monitoring and intermediate-level care. The RN is
responsible for assessing patient conditions, monitoring cardiac
rhythms, administering medications, and coordinating care with
interdisciplinary healthcare teams. This role requires strong
clinical judgment, the ability to manage multiple patient needs,
and experience with telemetry and progressive care interventions.
Key Responsibilities Perform comprehensive patient assessments and
ongoing reassessments Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry and
respond to rhythm changes Administer medications, IV therapies, and
blood products per protocol Manage central lines, PICC lines, and
peripheral IVs Titrate cardiac, vasoactive, and insulin drips as
ordered Provide pre- and post-procedural care Recognize and respond
to changes in patient condition, initiating Rapid Response when
necessary Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments,
and discharge plans Collaborate with physicians and
interdisciplinary care teams Maintain accurate and timely
documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) Adhere to
infection control, safety, and quality standards Clinical Skills &
Competencies Cardiac telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia
interpretation IV therapy and phlebotomy Central and peripheral
line care and management Oxygen therapy, CPAP/BIPAP, and high-flow
nasal cannula (as applicable) Stroke, seizure, and neurological
monitoring Wound care and wound vac management Pain management,
including PCA (as applicable) Isolation precautions and infection
prevention Work Environment Medical-Surgical Unit Telemetry Unit
Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Intermediate Care Unit (IMC)
Requirements Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
(state-specific or compact) Minimum 1–2 years of recent Med-Surg,
Telemetry, or PCU experience BLS certification (American Heart
Association or equivalent) Ability to work variable shifts,
including nights, weekends, and holidays Strong assessment,
critical thinking, and time-management skills Excellent
communication and teamwork abilities Ability to meet physical
demands of the role, including patient mobility assistance
Preferred Qualifications ACLS certification Prior experience in a
Progressive Care or Stepdown Unit Familiarity with electronic
medical record systems (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, etc.) Travel or
