Position Summary: The Staff RN on the Geriatric Inpatient Psychiatric Unit provides compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to older adults experiencing acute psychiatric conditions. The RN collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to promote safety, stabilization, and recovery in a structured therapeutic environment. Key Responsibilities: * Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans. * Administer medications and monitor for therapeutic and adverse effects. * Provide direct patient care including assistance with ADLs, behavioral interventions, and crisis management. * Monitor and document changes in mental and physical health status. * Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals. * Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, and discharge planning. * Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR). * Ensure compliance with hospital policies, state regulations, and Joint Commission standards. * Participate in unit safety rounds, de-escalation techniques, and emergency response protocols. * Advocate for patient dignity, autonomy, and rights in all aspects of care. Qualifications: * Required: * Current RN license in [State] * BLS certification * Strong clinical judgment and communication skills * Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, emotionally demanding environment * Preferred: * Experience in psychiatric or geriatric nursing * CPI or other crisis intervention certification * BSN or higher degree in nursing Physical and Mental Demands: * Ability to stand, walk, and assist patients for extended periods. * Capacity to manage stressful situations and respond calmly to psychiatric emergencies. * Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical interventions when necessary.
