SummaryAbout the Position: The Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) is a relatively small organization with a mission critical to our national defense.Our job is to process applicants for all five services into the armed forces.The job is both challenging and rewarding. For most new military service members, processing through the MEPS is the first real exposure to a military operation. For that reason, we seek customer-oriented employees with a desire to serve their country in a meaningful way.ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent will work as a Testing Clerk working for the Portland Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).You will be responsible for all aspects of the administration of all aptitude and qualification exams at the MEPS and Military Entrance Test (MET) sites for the applicants of the various Armed services. Additionally, you will:Administer, proctor, and score applicant exams ensuring quality and integrity of examination practices and proceduresMaintain inventory and accountability of all acquired testing materials and equipment.Brief applicants on military examination procedures and eligibility requirements.RequirementsConditions of EmploymentQualificationsWho May Apply: Only applicants who meet one of the employment authority categories below are eligible to apply for this job. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Conducting aptitude and qualification exams; 2) Briefing applicants on testing materials and equipment; 3) Ensuring security and accountability for testing materials; 4) Scoring exams; 5) Compiling test results and information into a centralized reporting system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:Computer SkillsCustomer ServiceIntegrity/HonestySpeaking * PLEASE NOTE: For GS-05: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.EducationFOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
