Department: Wound Care Clinic
Position is located: Outpatient Surg & Spec Center
Work Type: Full Time
FTE: 40 Hours Weekly
Work Schedule: 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Summary:
The Nurse Practitioner evaluates and medically manages patients in
accordance with physician directives, medical bylaws, established
protocols, and with practice guidelines established by the Board of
Medicine and the Board of Nursing. The incumbent performs duties
and tasks in accordance with standards established for the job. The
incumbent may have access to highly confidential patient, employee
and/or Mercy proprietary information, and must handle the
information in accordance with hospital policy, HIPAA requirements
and the highest level of ethical standards.
The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of
all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position, and
conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and
Values of Mercy Hospital.
Responsibilities:
1. Applies and performs appropriate patient care in the clinical
setting as described within the outlined medical privileges in
consultation with the supervising physician.
--- Performs accurate history and physical examinations.
--- Interprets diagnostic studies and incorporates findings into
sound assessment and medical plans.
--- Utilizes pharmaceuticals according to DEA and state
regulations.
--- Writes and renews prescriptions when appropriate.
--- Addresses and/or modifies care plans as appropriate under the
guidance of the supervising physician.
--- Assures continuity of care when referring or transferring a
patient.
--- Provides patient education and counseling when necessary.
--- Establishes therapeutic relationships with patient, family,
significant others, with regard to religious, ethnical and personal
beliefs.
2. Collaborates and works efficiently with members of the
multidisciplinary team to ensure quality patient care.
--- Addresses medical issues appropriately with supervising
physician.
--- Utilizes suggestions/recommendations from other team members
when developing and/or modifying care plans.
--- Recognizes limitations of expertise and seeks assistance when
necessary.
3. Performs appropriate documentation to ensure adherence to
department policies:
--- Records accurate history and physical examinations.
--- Utilizes appropriate medical terminology during written
documentation and with verbal discussion with other healthcare
personnel.
--- Establishes a medical care plan with the supervising
physician.
--- Writes clear and concise progress notes, consultations and
transfer notes.
4. Performs appropriate order communication functions:
--- Orders appropriate diagnostic studies with consideration for
medical and cost containment issues.
--- Develops a clear and concise plan of care.
--- Apply/perform technical skills in the appropriate clinical
setting under the guidance of the supervising physician.
5. Participates in education/development programs specific to the
Physician Extender Program:
--- Participates in inter-disciplinary patient care
conferences.
--- Participates in continuing staff education.
