DEKA Research and Development, housed in Manchester, NH, has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Systems Engineer Intern to work in a dynamic Research and Development environment. In this role you will work alongside a group of passionate engineers to create innovative solutions that truly make a difference and help strengthen and improve DEKA's Quality Management System (QMS). DEKA offers Internships and Co-Ops for full time students* (must be at least 18 years of age). Internships last a minimum of 10 weeks, but 12 weeks is preferred. All summer internships must start no later than June 15, 2026. How You Will Make an Impact as a Quality Systems Engineer Intern: Designing and testing workflows in the electronic QMS (eQMS) platform Reviewing SOPs and documentation for alignment with FDA QSRs, ISO 13485, and other regulatory standards Supporting CAPA investigations using root cause analysis, data-driven insights, and structured problem-solving approaches Conducting a regulatory research review of SOPs scheduled for 2027 periodic review — evaluating current regulations and standards to identify gaps, and drafting gap assessments and remediation plan proposals Collecting, analyzing, and trending quality data to support metrics reporting Writing and refining SOPs, operating procedures, and guidance documents that support QMS processes Streamlining and formatting quality documents for improved usability and traceability Building an Excel-based compliance map tracing relationships between SOPs, Quality Handbooks (QHs), and Operating Procedures (OPs) Supporting software tool validation activities under supervision, including contributing to automated testing development alongside a QMS software engineer Reviewing design control phase transition records (QH161) to verify all required elements are addressed Supporting document scanning and general QMS administrative tasks (estimated 5–10 hours/week) What You Will Learn as a Quality Systems Engineer Intern: Key quality system design control processes and how they're applied in real-world product development Hands-on experience with quality system compliance and regulatory frameworks like FDA QSRs and ISO 13485 How to conduct regulatory research and translate findings into structured gap assessments and corrective action plans Software tool validation methodology and the basics of automated testing in a regulated environment Technical writing and document control best practices Project management and cross-functional collaboration How to clearly communicate complex technical information across a range of audiences What We Look for in a Quality Systems Engineer Intern: Curiosity & Drive: You're eager to learn and not afraid to ask questions Analytical Thinking: You like solving problems and spotting patterns in data Strong Communicator: You can clearly explain technical ideas Attention to Detail: You catch what others might miss Required Skills and Experience: Enrolled in an undergraduate science or engineering program ( graduate students are not eligible ) Local to New Hampshire (preferred) Must have strong attention to detail Exposure to or coursework in the following areas is a plus (preferred): Biomedical engineering or design projects Design controls or medical device regulations (21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485) Microsoft Word and Excel Technical documentation (e.g., lab reports, procedures) About DEKA: One hour from the beach, Boston, and the mountains, the historic Amoskeag Millyard once housed the largest textile mills in the world.
